Instagram Updates You Need to Know: January 2021
#1: Instagram Reels may soon appear on Facebook
Facebook is apparently considering another option to ratchet up the pressure on TikTok, this time by enabling Instagram users who are posting Reels to also enable those Reels clips to be viewable on Facebook, with the potential of being shown in both the News Feed and in Facebook Watch.
That could point to new Reels promotion opportunities on Facebook, significantly boosting your potential audience reach. Imagine a Reels highlight panel within the News Feed, or a dedicated Reels listing within Facebook Watch. There's not much to go on as yet, but it could be another way to boost Reels exposure, providing more opportunities for creators, which may help Facebook lure more of them across from TikTok itself.
Ad targeting impacted by changes to Apple iOS 14 privacy features
An upcoming update to Apple’s iOS 14 operating system could soon restrict the amount of user data Facebook and Instagram can collect for targeted advertising. The new AppTrackingTransparency framework requires users to opt-in for data tracking.
Instagram fuels growth in India with Instagram Lite
During the company’s Fuel for India conference in December last year, Instagram announced plans to re-release a lighter version of its app in the region. At less than 2MB, the Android app is intended to accommodate people with limited access to reliable Internet or devices. Reels, IGTV, and Instagram Shopping are not available.
Instagram never stops to surprise us. While the world is trying to stay resilient through these tough economic times, it is exciting to see how Instagram is rapidly developing new features and functionalities to tackle main business issues and help users support their favorite brands.
